Night from 9 to 10 October 2022 — full Moon

Night from 9 to 10 October 2022 — full moon

The full Moon will come at 23:55 Moscow time. This is actually a great luck. After all, most often we talk about the night closest to the full Moon, but the full Moon itself can happen in the morning or in the evening, or even the day before. And when we observe the Moon at night, it has either already passed the full Moon, or the full Moon has not yet come — in both cases, the Moon is not quite full.

But a dump truck with Mooncakes turned over on our street — five minutes to midnight — the best time for observations — a completely full Moon will shine for us. This circumstance is additionally accompanied by the proximity of the Moon to the node of the orbit, because an eclipse is coming soon (October 25 is a partial solar eclipse visible in Moscow, the European part of Russia and neighboring states).

Eclipses, as we know, happen near the nodes of the lunar orbit — those imaginary points where the lunar orbit intersects with the plane of the Earth's orbit. In this case, the Sun, Earth and Moon can be on the same straight line — so that one thing can obscure something else, or at least cover it with its shadow.

Now — a couple of weeks before the eclipse — the full Moon will occur in a slight deviation of the Moon from the ecliptic. That is, the Moon, the Earth and the Sun are already close to the same axis. Not so close that a lunar eclipse will come (it will certainly come — in a month, however, we — in Europe and Africa — will not see it), but still not as far as usual. And we will contemplate the full Moon from the same direction from which the Sun illuminates it — without any terminator lines at the north or south lunar poles.

In short, the true full Moon awaits us tonight — nowhere is fuller.

Only 12-13 degrees west of the Moon will shine very bright Jupiter — the largest of the planets in the solar system. Last night it was very close to the Moon — many of you, my readers, saw this, and even posted your pictures on social networks — thank you for that.

But the most luxurious picture of the upcoming night will open three hours after midnight, when all the winter constellations will enter the sky, decorated with bright red Mars near the border of the constellations of Taurus and Gemini.

The Moon and Jupiter by that time will already have time to lean significantly to the west. But they will shine this night from dusk to dawn — this is their night.
